Cocteau y la música
Hace medio siglo moría en París, Jean Cocteau. Se ha dicho de él que, sin ser primero en ninguna disciplina, fue un brillante segundo en todas: poesía, teatro, cine, pintura, dibujo. En este último renglón se lo ha comparado con ilustres antecedentes como Durero o Ingres. Podía haberse incluido en la lista a Dalí, sobre todo porque también el catalán se metió a escenógrafo.
Me quedo en el tema musical. Cocteau no fue ni compositor ni intérprete de música pero sí un cierto doctrinario y un agitador estético de la música que se hacía en el París de su tiempo, que es decir uno de los escenarios más importantes del mundo en dicha materia. En textos sueltos y aforísticos como El gallo y el arlequín, Opio o Pasado imperfecto contribuyó a conformar una tendencia que, partiendo de las vanguardias de la preguerra como el futurismo o el dadá, y orillando al surrealismo, que fue alérgico radical a la música, revisó el movimiento germánico en contra de la tonalidad, a favor de un neolatino ejercicio de claridad melódica. Así surgieron el Grupo de los Seis y el Stravinski del “retorno a Bach”, deudores del texto coctiano Un llamado al orden. También así consiguió Cocteau juntar a Picasso y a Satie en el ballet Parade, y propuso a Stravinski esa curiosa obra, ese oratorio profano con dioses antiguos entremezclado con noticias de periódico como voces de la fatalidad que es Oedipus Rex. Asimismo cuenta el hecho de que un músico de notoria solidez como Georges Auric se ocupase de la banda sonora de sus películas.
Desde luego, 
Cocteau contaba con un ejemplo a tener muy en cuenta y es el de Serge Diaghilev quiren, sin ser músico, convocó a los mejores de su tiempo en torno a sus Ballets Rusos. Hace cien años puso la pica en Flandes, es decir en París, con La consagración de la primavera. Fue el último año pacífico de la Bella Época, el año en que, no casualmente, llegaba el tango argentino a París de manos de un señor Pacheco, según nos anoticia en sus diarios Jean Cocteau, siempre alerta a las novedades. En la posguerra de 1919 vendrían los filmes soviéticos, el jazz de los negros, las operetas revolucionarias de Berlín. Es otra historia que siempre contó con la despierta contribución de nuestro poeta.
